The Greater Yuma Port Authority leads the planning, development, and advocacy of modern border infrastructure, promoting strategic investment and collaboration to strengthen security, economic growth, and binational connectivity.
The Greater Yuma Port Authority, Inc. (GYPA) was established in 2000 through the collective vision of regional leaders who recognized that Yuma County stood at a pivotal moment in its growth as an international trade corridor. As cross-border commerce expanded and pedestrian and passenger vehicle traffic increased, the need for a long-term infrastructure strategy became clear.
GYPA was created to advance a two-port solution, separating commercial traffic from pedestrian and privately owned vehicle crossings ensuring efficiency, safety, and scalability for future trade volumes. This strategic vision led to the development of the San Luis II Commercial Port of Entry, positioned on the eastern edge of the City of San Luis, Arizona. Today, it serves as a vital gateway for agricultural commodities, manufactured goods, and binational commerce.
The Authority’s founding governmental partners, four regional public entities appointed leadership representation to guide the development and oversight of this transformative initiative. Through collaborative planning and advocacy, GYPA was instrumental in advancing:

Each founding entity appoints two board members, ensuring balanced regional representation and unified strategic direction. The Board’s mission remains focused on facilitating the efficient flow of cross-border traffic, strengthening trade infrastructure, and enhancing Yuma County’s economic vitality.
Working in coordination with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and in ongoing dialogue with port users, industry stakeholders, and partners on both sides of the border, GYPA promotes operational efficiency, regulatory alignment, and long-term infrastructure planning.
As a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, the Greater Yuma Port Authority serves as a strategic convener, advocate, and catalyst for responsible port development. The Authority exists to ensure that Yuma County remains a competitive, secure, and globally connected trade gateway, today and for generations to come.
